Our Origins
Scent-a-Tack began in 2001 in Santa Monica, California, where our founder, Kristin Polidoro began experimenting with all-natural ingredients to create a gentle yet effective moisturizing leather cleaner. Using her own homemade recipes, she crafted batch after batch until the perfect saddle soap was born: a perfectly balanced leather cleaner-conditioner that smelled scrumptious and left her tack feeling soft and supple.
Don Niki (Don, for short) was Kristin's long-time friend and partner in hunter/jumpers, dressage and eventing. He has crossed the rainbow bridge, but his sweetness and effervescence continue to inspire us. His joie de vivre is the basis for the Scent-a-Tack logo and reminds us every day to find the fun in everything!
Our Products
Scent-a-Tack conditioning saddle soaps use all-natural ingredients of the highest quality to pamper your tack and other valued leather items. Gentle vegetable glycerin acts as a leather cleaner to lift away dirt and grime, while rich, moisturizing leather conditioners like cocoa butter and apricot kernel oil give leather a soft, supple finish, leaving it healthy and protected. Scent-a-Tack leather care products are handmade in small batches and are always vegan and cruelty-free.
Our Commitment to a Sustainable Future
As part of our commitment to a more sustainable future, we've transitioned away from plastic jars. We use planet-friendly packaging that can be recycled or composted. Our labels have a very small amount of plastic coating to allow them to stand up to moisture, but we continue to look for ways to minimize plastic.
Our Core Values
We believe in doing the right thing, respecting others, staying true to ourselves and keeping things fun. With this in mind, we’ve defined three core values that help guide us: kindness, creativity and sustainability.
Kindness in how we treat others – human, horse and everyone in between. Promoting others’ well-being, happiness, health and growth. Rooted in respect, including respect for ourselves. It comes from a place of doing the right thing, even when the right thing might be difficult or take extra time.
Creativity in looking for solutions that might not be obvious or easy. Keeping things fun and not taking ourselves too seriously. Being true to our unique selves, celebrating our differences, and protecting our originality.
Sustainability in recognizing that our planet is the only home we have, and that leaving it in a better state than how we found it is our responsibility. Making everyday choices that impact the environment and its future in a positive way, allowing it to be a healthy home for us, our equine partners and our extended global community for generations to come.
